About Mission Chinese Food
Located at 2234 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110, Mission Chinese Food operates as a chinese restaurant serving San Francisco in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.
In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Francisco; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 11:30 amβ2:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Its website is missionchinesefood.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Its Google rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 1,260 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.
San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in San Francisco peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Great option for interesting vegan Chinese food in the Mission, they have menu items that are different then the typical Chinese fare. Appreciate that items are clearly labelled if they are vegan or can by made vegan. There are a good variety of options for vegan apps and mains. Got the vinegar peanuts which were really delicious, difficult to stop eating them, very addicting with the vinegar flavor. The mapo tofu with mushroom was good, not as spicy as expected. The star of our meal was the cabbage with pistachio milk. It's more of a pistachio cream type sauce on top, and the sauce becomes milky as it mixes with the juice that comes out of the cabbage. The cabbage was amazing, very flavorful and delicious with the pistachio sauce, would definitely get this again next time. Service was quick and there was no wait at ~8:30pm on a Thursday night.

We ordered chicken chow mein and baby back ribs - both delicious! We also ordered a bottle of red that was simply divine, a little bit spenny but worth it. Will definitely be back!

Mission Chinese Food has a really cool vibe that immediately stands out. It gives you that classic hole-in-the-wall feeling while still feeling intentional and fun, which adds to the overall experience. The food was greatβbold flavors, well executed, and definitely memorable. Everything we tried was satisfying and clearly made with care, making it easy to see why this place has such a strong reputation. Service was good and consistent throughout our visit. Staff was friendly, attentive, and kept things moving smoothly without making us feel rushed. The space itself adds to the charm. It feels relaxed, lively which makes it a great spot for a casual meal or a night out with friends. Mission Chinese Food delivers on vibe, food, and service, weβll definitely be back.

A unique take on Chinese-Jewish fusion, with a dining room reminiscent of the Lower East Side (New York City). Chongqing Chicken Wings are deep-fried and fragrantly spicy; the crispy tripe add-on is an absolute must. Crispy Golden Mountain Roll is a pleasant surprise, as the crisp comes from spring roll hiding beneath a fresh rice noodle layer. Tingly Mapo Tofu is an all-around crowd pleaser; when enjoyed with white rice, the meal closes with a satisfying comfort. Not your typical Chinese β but, hands-down a winner for its culinary uniqueness.

It is a strange place and the food is a twist of classic chinese... well, different for certain. But overall tasty. We had the fried garlic rice, cold noodle with peanut sauce, hot & sour soup, pork belly and fried lamb dumplings. My favorite was the pork belly, but it came with strange presentation with pineapple which wss just watery. Not sure if I'm coming back. But overall nice experience and we enjoyed the meal.
